Stage: Laboratory prototype
Shenzhen University reported on September 3, 2025 that a team working with Xidian University had combined one-way liquid transport with electrochemical sensing in a smart-diaper prototype. A Janus fabric directs urine towards an absorbent layer and sensing components.
The design measures glucose, uric acid and pH-related signals and transmits information to a smartphone via Bluetooth. It connects absorbent-product design with urine analysis, but the university announcement does not establish clinical diagnostic accuracy or a commercial launch.
