Stage: Sensor development and testing
An imec publication record describes a smart-diaper sensing design reported in the 2025 volume of IEEE Sensors Journal. Researchers use carbon-printed structures in the disposable product and a reusable external readout.
Capacitive coupling allows the readout to detect moisture without a direct electrical connection to the printed structures. The work reports laboratory and in-field testing. It addresses how disposable sensing material and reusable electronics can work together; it does not establish improvements in skin health or caregiver workload.
