Asahi Kasei announces an updated urine-powered smart-diaper demonstration

JapanUnited States

Stage: Development and demonstration

Asahi Kasei Microdevices announced on November 12, 2025 an updated smart-diaper demonstration for CES 2026 in Las Vegas. Its description uses urine as an electrolyte and conductive material as electrodes, with energy-harvesting electronics operating without an external battery.

The update adds printable conductive ink and an algorithm intended to detect urination count and amount. These are the developer’s descriptions of a demonstration, not a commercial diaper launch or an independently validated measurement claim. The exhibition was scheduled for January 6–9, 2026; this announcement alone does not confirm subsequent commercial availability.
