The European Commission announced on August 11, 2026 that the Packaging and Packaging Waste Regulation, or PPWR, would begin applying across the EU from August 12. The regulation entered into force in February 2025 and introduces measures on a phased timetable.
The Commission explains that measures concerning recyclability and the use of recycled plastic include requirements applying from 2030. The August 2026 starting date should therefore not be read as the start of every obligation.
This is general packaging-policy context for the materials supply chain. It does not announce a new adult-diaper package or establish compliance for a particular hygiene product; individual requirements, dates and exceptions need to be checked against the regulation.
