NHS Supply Chain reported the first Cavell Clinical Procurement Awards on June 18, 2026. Held in partnership with NHS Supply Chain, the awards recognized work connecting clinical decisions, purchasing and patient care. Fiona Weaver, a team leader and clinical nurse specialist at Wirral Community Health and Care NHS Foundation Trust, received the Sustainability award.
According to the account, Weaver challenged established practice by introducing reusable continence products. NHS Supply Chain describes the project as reducing waste, improving patient acceptance and delivering environmental and financial benefits.
The Patient Outcomes award also recognized continence-related work. Abigail Knight, Hart Free Care Lead at East Suffolk and North Essex NHS Foundation Trust, led a quality-improvement initiative addressing incontinence-associated dermatitis. The report credits the initiative with improving dignity and reducing harm. Across the awards, judges highlighted collaboration between clinical and procurement teams, the rigour behind initiatives and persistence in overcoming barriers. Other categories recognized work on patient safety, value-based purchasing and clinical procurement teamwork.
