ZymoChem announced research results for BAYSE, its bio-based, biodegradable superabsorbent polymer, on March 31, 2026. The company commissioned third-party tests against a leading petroleum-based superabsorbent. It reported fluid uptake twice as fast and up to 3.6 times as fast for thicker fluids associated with menstrual and postpartum care, alongside strong retention under pressure. The release also describes a balance between gel strength and absorption capacity intended to avoid adding bulk to absorbent cores.
For manufacturing validation, ZymoChem produced infant size-four diapers on an industrial line using four different core designs. It says all four passed the production test. With the best-performing design, virtually no moisture returned to the surface when a fully saturated diaper was compressed to simulate a sitting or sleeping baby; total capacity also exceeded engineering targets. Adult incontinence products are among the applications discussed in the release, while the reported manufacturing trial used infant diapers. The company links to a research paper describing its methods and results.
