A paper published in JMIR Aging on May 27, 2024 evaluates TrueLoo, a connected toilet seat that records urine and stool events.
The retrospective study includes 52 participants aged 63–101 in a Dallas, Texas care facility. Its field phase examined three days of data from 52 devices, comparing automated records with usual person-reported records and assessing acceptability.
Algorithm-development results and field-record comparisons are different analyses. This was not a randomized trial of long-term health outcomes. Several authors were Toi Labs employees or consultants with financial interests, as disclosed in the paper. The source supports a study of recording and use, not a general claim that the system prevents illness.
