BASF opened a global performance laboratory for diapers and superabsorbent polymers in Mumbai on August 18, 2026. The facility belongs to its Hygiene Solutions business and provides technical and application services to superabsorbent customers worldwide. It was established in less than a year within the BASF Innovation Campus Asia Pacific, the company's second-largest research and development location in the region.
The 200-square-metre laboratory can carry out more than 30 test methods. BASF says it is designed to evaluate both superabsorbents and finished diapers, including performance and benchmark testing. Its work supports joint development of superabsorbent solutions for baby diapers, adult incontinence products and feminine hygiene applications.
The Mumbai team will collaborate closely with BASF's existing global superabsorbent product-development laboratory in Ludwigshafen, Germany. The company presents the new facility as a way to give customers technical support, application expertise and faster exchanges of knowledge, drawing on its global superabsorbent production network to develop hygiene materials with customers.
