WRAP reviews a decade of separate nappy and incontinence-pad collections in Wales

United Kingdom

WRAP published a case study on July 8, 2025 describing Rhondda Cynon Taf’s long-running collection of used nappies and incontinence pads in Wales.

The council introduced the scheme in 2014, alongside restrictions on residual waste. Residents register for free weekly kerbside collections using dedicated purple sacks. WRAP describes processing through NappiCycle and subsequent uses of recovered material, including road-surfacing applications.

The case study provides an institutional account of collection and treatment. Its totals combine product types, and improvements in the council’s overall recycling rate reflect several measures. Those figures should not be presented as adult-pad-only recovery or as effects attributable solely to this scheme.
