Continence Health Australia reports change to older people’s continence funding

Australia

Continence Health Australia welcomed an Australian government decision allowing eligible older people to continue receiving the Continence Aids Payment Scheme, or CAPS, while accessing Support at Home or the Commonwealth Home Support Program. The June 30 statement said the change matters to people with permanent and severe incontinence who face ongoing costs for continence products. From July 1, 2026, the CAPS payment rate was set at A$739.40 a year.

The organisation said it had raised concerns that people moving into Support at Home might otherwise face confusion, administrative work, out-of-pocket costs or gaps in continence support. Its advocacy drew on calls to the National Continence Helpline, feedback from users, carers and health professionals, and correspondence with the aged care minister. Chief executive Jim Cooper said the decision would help connect systems that older people rely on. The organisation said it would continue working with government and care providers to make the support easier to understand and access.
