Continence Health Australia discusses washable absorbent materials

Australia

Continence Health Australia interviewed Michael Lakiss-Smith, managing director of the Australian family business Night n Day, for its Bridge magazine. He described how a reusable cloth nappy developed by his mother, Rose, evolved into a range that includes continence underwear for older children and adults. Night n Day designs its own material specifications, patterns and fit, and makes the products in house. Fabrics are made to its specifications at mills in Australia and overseas, and the company says it has them tested for qualities such as colourfastness.

Some products use as many as seven layers, arranged from an absorbent inner surface to a waterproof outer layer. The interview also covers custom orders, reusable swimwear and bodysuits. Lakiss-Smith said the company is developing products using natural materials in response to customer requests. The article includes washing guidance, including avoiding fabric conditioner and chlorine bleach, and explains that the company accepts several Australian support funding schemes.
