Unicharm introduces AI-assisted guidance for putting on Lifree pants

Japan Unicharm Lifree

Unicharm announced on May 28, 2026, that it had introduced an AI-assisted service showing people how to put on Lifree pull-on pants. Users hold a smartphone vertically and record arm and leg movements following on-screen instructions. The system analyses those movements and selects video guidance from 400 combinations, offering steps and tips intended to help the person put their legs through the pants independently.

The company says its research identified putting the legs through the garment as the most difficult part of changing pull-on pants for both care recipients and caregivers. In a separate survey, 73.1% of caregivers reported difficulty or stress when gathering care information.

The service joins Lifree's existing digital tools: a product-selection questionnaire with about nine questions, a sizing tool that estimates waist and thigh measurements from a full-body photograph, and a chatbot available around the clock. Unicharm presents the addition as support for using products in ways suited to an individual's physical abilities.
