Kericho caregivers receive diaper-making machines

Kenya

Kenya News Agency reported on April 22, 2026 that Safaricom Foundation had donated two diaper-making machines, valued together at KSh 500,000, to Arise and Shine in Kericho. The community organisation supports children with autism and cerebral palsy and their caregivers. The machines were handed over at its premises in Duka Moja, along the Kericho–Kisumu highway.

Director Pamela Keno said the equipment would allow local production of up to 40 diapers a day in adult, medium and small sizes. She described cotton fabric with a waterproof inner layer and planned retail prices of KSh 400–500, depending on size. Keno expects production to reduce caregivers' purchasing burden and provide an income opportunity for caregivers and widows. A caregiver of a 20-year-old daughter with cerebral palsy said she spends KSh 3,000 a month on adult diapers and hoped to learn to make and sell them. Founded in 2023, Arise and Shine also advocates for disability rights and inclusion.
