Germany's GKV-Spitzenverband issued guidance, dated July 6 and effective September 1, 2026, on when qualified nurses may recommend medical and care aids during specified home or community care services. Its product annex includes absorbent incontinence inserts and pants, as well as fixation pants for inserts.
Under the guidance, a recommendation may create a presumption that a listed type of aid is necessary or required, provided the conditions are met. It applies in defined care settings and depends on the professional's qualifications. A recommendation accompanies an application to the relevant health or long-term care insurer; it is not automatic approval or a general entitlement to any chosen brand. The insurer still assesses other eligibility and economic conditions.
The annex lists product types, not individual products. The document does not by itself establish when a particular adult diaper sold in Germany will be funded.
