Unicharm announced on January 19, 2024 an updated Lifree RefF overnight incontinence pad using recycled pulp recovered from used diapers. The company said supply to hospitals and care facilities in Japan’s Kyushu region would begin in mid-January.
The product’s official Japanese name is ライフリーRefF 一晩中安心さらさらパッドウルトラ. Unicharm describes improvements to absorption and odour control, including an activated-carbon sheet. Those are manufacturer descriptions; this brief does not report an independent performance test.
The release concerns a renewal: Unicharm says an earlier recycled-material version was used by some Kagoshima care facilities from June 2022. Recycled pulp is part of the raw materials, not evidence that the entire product is made from recycled material. The announcement specifies institutional supply in Kyushu, rather than nationwide retail availability.
